Old work horse goes on show Historical treasure:

The locomotive, officially in service from 1955 to 1997, is the first diesel electric locomotive ever to run in Hong Kong.

Named after the then governor, Sir Alexander Grantham, it was the first Hong Kong locomotive named after a person.

Using steam power since 1910, a new era of railway transportation started in 1955 when the first diesel electric locomotive debuted.

Long service retirement

In 1983, railway passenger services switched to full electrification. Sir Alexander was then repositioned to shunt maintenance coaches and haul freight trains between the Mainland and Hong Kong until 1997, when it was phased out of service.

During its years of steadfast service, a number of accessories were added to the locomotive, including body railings and space for a diesel generator to power the air-conditioning system.

All of these have been kept in the refurbished locomotive to illustrate how it accommodated to the changes the railways underwent.

Located at 13 Shung Tak Street, Tai Po, the Railway Museum is open from 9am to 5pm daily. It is closed on Tuesdays. Admission is free. For enquiries, call 2653 3455.

「熊熊愛心連世界」展覽

超過120隻身形龐大、色彩繽紛而又各具特色的愛心熊已展開世界巡迴之旅，並將於五月抵港，在維多利亞公園中央草坪與大家見面。

這些可愛的愛心熊前來香港，是要宣揚愛心、和平與團結的信息，同時推動公眾藝術，讓香港市民認識到如何把藝術融入日常生活之中。

此外，愛心熊還會為香港公益金、聯合國兒童基金香港委員會和成龍慈善基金會籌募善款。在這次展覽所籌得的款項將會悉數捐贈給上述慈善機構，以幫助有需要的人。

愛心熊是什麼?

二零零二年，德國人Klaus Herlitz博士與妻子Eva希望創造出一個設計，作為各國之間互相了解和包容的象徵。他們認為各國人民普遍對熊有所偏愛，覺得牠們可愛友善，因此有愛心熊這個構思。

每一隻愛心熊身上的設計均由不同國家的藝術家繪畫，獨一無二，各具特色。在世界各地的展覽中，愛心熊都會手拉手、肩並肩地站?荂A帶出各國團結、互相包容和了解的信息。

二零零二年夏、秋間，120多隻愛心熊首次在德國柏林展出，瞬即成為城中焦點，並吸引了超過150萬名市民參觀。

為什麼安排愛心熊來港展出?

國際影星成龍先生於二零零三年間在德國拍攝時，深受街上一批造型可愛的愛心熊所吸引，其後更特意往Klaus Herlitz博士及其妻子Eva的愛心熊工場參觀。當成龍先生得悉愛心熊帶有宣揚「各國互相包容，締造世界和平」的信息後，便希望愛心熊能夠在香港展出，隨後更向特區政府提出這個建議。

為什麼在公園展出愛心熊？

由於愛心熊的另一重任是推動公眾藝術，故此主辦單位特別選擇在維多利亞公園展出這些充滿了藝術色彩的愛心熊，讓市民置身於熟悉的環境欣賞藝術展品，認識到可利用公眾地方推動創意文化和藝術發展，以及藝術家和市民的共同參與，對提升文化生活起了很大的作用。

樂於助人的愛心熊

「熊熊愛心連世界」展覽的其中一個目標，是要幫助世界各地有需要的兒童。在世界巡迴展完畢後，這些愛心熊將會在德國柏林義賣，所得善款將捐助聯合國兒童基金。
